U.S. Job Openings Hit New High

The number of U.S. job openings reached a new high in April and hiring slowed, a signal that companies are having difficulty finding qualified employees. The number of job openings climbed by 259,000 to 6.04 million, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, the highest level recorded since the government began monitoring the figure in 2000. The number of hires, meanwhile, declined by 253,000 to 5.05 million.
